UE Accounting Lecture to Feature International Accounting Guru as Inaugural Speaker

The University of the East in cooperation with the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), will launch the UE Accounting Lecture Series on January 23, 2008, Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the UE Theatre, UE Manila.

Dr. Washington SyCip, founder of SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV & Co.) and Chairman of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), will be the Lecture Series’ inaugural Speaker as well as Guest of Honor.

Acknowledged internationally as an Accounting guru, Dr. SyCip founded SGV & Co. in 1946. To date, the SGV Group has established branches all over the Philippines and is a member firm of Ernst & Young.

A Board Member of the Tan Yan Kee Foundation Inc., Dr. SyCip has been the AIM Chairman since its inception in 1968 until the present. The 1992 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for International Understanding and a PICPA Accountancy Hall of Famer since 1980, Dr. SyCip is also the third President of the International Federation of Accountants, the only Filipino-born professional to head the Federation.

He is a board member of companies worldwide and a well-known adviser on the Philippine economy. The firms he helped organize in Southeast Asia now plays a leading role in their respective countries in developing an Accounting profession with international standards.

A pioneer UE Accounting professor in the 1950s, Dr. SyCip’s lecture at UE marks a homecoming of sorts.

UE, since the 1950s, is widely recognized for its College of Business Administration, especially in Accountancy, with numerous graduates successful in Accountancy and related professions here and abroad.
